Danzell Maze
Graduate, Ottawa Hills High School
“Take every opportunity that’s presented to you.”
Danzell Maze is a quiet but powerful force. Talk to him, and he will modestly tell you that he’s planning to go to Ferris State University on a scholarship. Google him, and you will find that he’s been making headlines since his junior year as a “dominating force on the offensive and defensive lines” in football.
Off the field, Danzell has been scoring wins as well. A humble young man, he’s quick to say several people helped him along the way. Coach James Stokes always “stayed on him” about his grades. Guidance counselor Mrs. June Anderson never stopped believing in him. Rotary Club STRIVE (Students Taking Renewed Interest in the Value of Education) mentor Mr. Bob Stark has been a steadfast supporter. And his mom is his “number one role model.”
It will be exciting to see what Danzell accomplishes at Ferris State, both as an athlete and a scholar. Even if he settles in as an offensive guard on the field, he will still be playing both ways in life: with athletics and academics. “Not everyone gets the chance to play,“ he says. “I’m going to value every opportunity that comes my way.”
